Automated local electrochemical characterization on metals with complex shape and practice-related surface state

Various electrochemical techniques exist to study corrosion processes locally. Generally, sample preparation is required ensure smooth surfaces, which may limit the applicability of experimental findings engineering conditions. To overcome these limitations, we use a probe with soft porous diaphragm that establishes electrolytic connection unprepared metal surfaces. We develop setup combines this robotic device reproducible positioning. Results illustrate through adjusting force at probe, contact area can be modified. The position on non-flat, complex-shaped samples such as cylindrical, corrugated bars (reinforcing steel). As tends become contaminated in course subsequent measurements, an automated cleaning procedure implemented. Finally, automation measurements allow for high-throughput local characterization, deliver characterization data suitable statistical and spatial analysis.
